Christmas Ornament Cards

Picking just one card to send this year is going to be extremely difficult, if not impossible! Here's two more to choose from:
You can just see the glimmer of the the silver pigment ink under the blue ornament. Unfortunately you can't see the incredible texture on the white layer added by a pass through the Big Shot with the Textured Impressions Petals-A-Plenty (#116824).

And who would think this year's IN Colors Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo would make a great Christmas card, but I love, love the contemporary taste the colors give to this card.
I wish you could see these "in person" - they just POP!
Let me know if you can make one of the upcoming events listed on my website or would like to schedule one that better fits your schedule.

Calendar, Babies & Christmas?

Who says everything is supposed to follow some pre-ordained "flow"? The calendar for this weekend showed a Holiday Card Stamp-A-Stack. Instead, my daughter came down with the flu, it was 70 degrees outside, and I made a 'welcome baby' gift and card. The circle album was a fun and quick using the Big Shot, and the card is too cute. (I'm still working on my photography skills!)

Today was an absolutely gorgeous spring day... wait, it's November and it was 70 degrees! Calendar, what calendar? And what's waiting on my table but Christmas Cards! So after taking Bella for a nice long walk and some playtime with Lexi, I took a ride to pick up my cell phone at work (oops). When the sun went down and a chill was back in the air, it was time to focus on Christmas again.
I had a blast starting to play with the ornament stamp set Delightful Decorations (#116517) and the coordinating Ornament Punch (#116794) from the Holiday Mini! I'm only just starting - can't wait to play with more colors and paper with the stamps and punch! So here's what I did this evening, but come back and look at what comes next!

If you'd like to make any of the items shown here, or create your own, the following dates are scheduled as Open Workshops or, with advance notice, come and Stamp-A-Stack of cards of your choice. Click here to go to my website for a full calendar and all my contact information.

Getting in the Spirit ...

Yesterday I celebrated Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas - a little of each. For me Halloween is made special by the little children dressed up in the most adorable costumes. This year was no exception. Then of course there was the doorbell at 9:30 - hello? NOT! By then, I was into Christmas - cards that is.
First comes Thanksgiving. Yesterday's workshop was just a couple of hours to relax and focus on Thanksgiving before the Christmas rush begins. We made the Autumn Leaves from last week's post and this card using Wandering Words stamp set from the Holiday Mini (#116507) as the focus and Holiday Best Hostess Set for the popped sentiment. A quick roll through the Big Shot adds some texture, then punch it up with a little sponging and you've got an easy WOW card!

After the workshop I was still in the stamping mood. With the warm weather we've had lately and the colors of autumn, it was hard to shifted gears towards Christmas, but shift I did. Next Saturday is the Stamp-A-Stack, so I figured I'd spend some time getting in the Christmas spirit.

This first card is too cute - I just love the reindeer "Dasher". It's available as a single stamp (pg 208, $8.98, #116816) - how can you go wrong!?! The glitter in his antlers and on the snowflake satisfy the glimmer-need of the holiday season.

Then something a bit more classic - my trees. Again, Lovely As A Tree (#115026) proves to be a "go to" stamp. This is a simple card, but true to the season.

This one is probably my favorite (so far). The double-sided Specialty Designer Series Paper Christmas Cocoa (#116770) from the Holiday Mini does double-duty when the punched out snowflake is reversed and attached with a red brad. "Tillyhead" designed this as a challenge and it was just screaming to be CASE'd.

For those of you who have already signed up for next Saturday's Stamp-A-Stack, I can't wait to see you catch that holiday spirit with a little red, white and glitter!

If you haven't registered for the Stamp-A-Stack and you're interested in making any of these cards, give me a call, drop me a text or email, comment on my blog or contact me through my Stampin' Up! website. See you all soon!

Autumn Leaves

What an absolutely glorious day outside today! My walk with the dogs at dawn, usually a chore, was a pleasure this morning. I opened the windows a bit and the fresh air even made the household chores seem to fly by. Editing my list of things to do, this card popped into my head so I just had to make it and share it.
Autumn is one of my favorite times of the year with its clear, crisp air and sunny days showing the bright colors of the trees. My years living in Oregon stamped a special place in my heart for big, REALLY big evergreens. These are probably the reasons why "Lovely As A Tree" is one of my favorite Stampin' Up! stamp sets. It's a great "go to" set, fitting for almost any occasion because it's so versatile. I saw this card by Jenny Charboneau and just fell in love with it. This is just one of the cards we'll be making on Saturday, 10/31 from 1-4. Check out the calendar on my website for details on reserving your spot.

Life Goes On....

I wanted to touch base and give you a quick update on what's been going on with me. I hope you've been wondering why you haven't heard from me in so long. I actually didn't realize exactly HOW long it had really been. When I logged in today and saw that the last time I posted was July 27th I was shocked. I knew my life-balance had been out of whack, but hadn’t realized for how long. One thing I’ve learned is that every so often, I need to re-evaluate my life. Well that's pretty much where I've been this last month.

As most of you know my teenage daughter had an exceptionally difficult 2+ years in high school. Changing schools in mid-January 2009 was the best thing we’d ever done. The last semester of her junior year was a total re-balance. This year, her senior year, she is in her groove. She has a GPA of 3.87, loves going to school, and is successfully balancing school, a social life and a part-time job. She not only survived the horrible years at her old school, but came through them growing into an amazing young woman who knows who she is and is comfortable in her own skin. I couldn’t be more proud of her – and that’s not just a mother talking!

Just as things were leveling out, in the first few days of August I gained another teenager. My 17 year old nephew, who had been denied access to this side of the family for 7 years, suddenly appeared. He had nowhere to go and I just couldn’t send him off to the State or to a homeless shelter, so I took on the responsibility of a teenager I barely know and we found room in our 1,000 sq ft condo for all 6’5” of him. Somehow, even with 3 adults, 2 dogs, and a cat we didn’t feel claustrophobic. As it turns out and not a surprise, my nephew’s past years were challenging, so living with structure and accountability were more than he could handle. Two weeks ago he chose to leave my home. My heart aches for him knowing the challenges that are facing him and the lack of tools he is equipped with to deal with them – but I’ve learned that I can’t save everyone and I can’t do everything.

As life goes on, I need to pick and choose what I am going to focus on. I need to prioritize and then work through my priority list. As I'm sure you all know from your own lives, sometimes certain things take precedence and you have to let other things slide for awhile. That's essentially what happened with my Stampin’ Up! business. Although it’s important to me, it wasn’t essential.

Over the past two weeks I’ve taken the time to re-evaluate many areas of my life, looking at all options as objectively as possible, including my demonstratorship for Stampin’ Up! How does being a demonstrator fit into my life? In answering this question I had to acknowledge that this year will be busy, especially with my daughter getting ready for college (she’s looking in Oregon 3,000 miles away). But the one thing I thoroughly enjoy, the one thing I do that is just for me, is stamping. It has been my therapy over the past 3 years, my quiet place in the storm – I don’t know what I would have done without it.

So, not only am I going to continue as a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, I’m going to ramp it up with opportunities for fun like Clubs, Stamp-a-Stacks, Technique Classes, Private Classes, and more Open Stamp Events. My posts here will be more frequent and the calendar on my Stampin’ Up! website will be updated regularly. My hope is that you’ll join me in my rediscovery of the Stampin’ Up! Statement of the Heart: "To love what we do and share what we love as we help others enjoy creativity and worthwhile accomplishments... in this we make a difference!"
